<br />
I stained it the table using Minwax Dark Walnut stain and let it dry overnight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qRJet1YfnTg/WfamBI30mTI/AAAAAAAAC1o/8jrL-oifbcse8vyO0du10setTQTBDgTaACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_5132.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1196" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qRJet1YfnTg/WfamBI30mTI/AAAAAAAAC1o/8jrL-oifbcse8vyO0du10setTQTBDgTaACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_5132.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">I then applied minwax paste wax to the areas I didn't want the paint to adhere too. I applied a blue/grey paint to the surface and let it dry. Then I used a metal scraper to remove most of the paint. I repeated that step applying a cream coloured paint. Again, I removed the paint with a scraper but I also used a heat gun to make the paint bubble and peel. This is what it looked like when I finished...</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p1sJ4YGvBeI/WfarGyIMzAI/AAAAAAAAC2c/z3SaerE8U5I6_iL4grGLHwgBB_gRQBAHACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_5139.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1196" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p1sJ4YGvBeI/WfarGyIMzAI/AAAAAAAAC2c/z3SaerE8U5I6_iL4grGLHwgBB_gRQBAHACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_5139.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hyWAqC8zA90/Wfarcy2TRcI/AAAAAAAAC2g/dhCd2-JHUVc3K4Q35LkvhREDwtn3WQbOgCKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_5142.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1196" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hyWAqC8zA90/Wfarcy2TRcI/AAAAAAAAC2g/dhCd2-JHUVc3K4Q35LkvhREDwtn3WQbOgCKgBGAs/s400/IMG_5142.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I thought I liked it until I put it in the den. Too dark! So I applied another coat of cream coloured paint to the entire table to try and lighten it. Once dry I used my palm sander to remove the paint. The second coat of cream paint helped to lighten the table and blend the colors. I like it much better! I think it looks old and weathered, but I'll let you be the judge! </div>

<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">It's been awhile since I've built anything with wood however, I had a visual in mind for a table in my den. This is what I came up with...</span>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m-mpn5hfQrU/WfajBYkwEII/AAAAAAAAC1A/2bWCkHdmBTs9UpMTwSlALfsLkAELjV5rACKgBGAs/s1600/IMG_5154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1196" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m-mpn5hfQrU/WfajBYkwEII/AAAAAAAAC1A/2bWCkHdmBTs9UpMTwSlALfsLkAELjV5rACKgBGAs/s400/IMG_5154.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">My table measures 30" long x 18" wide by 30" high. I used 16 ft of 8" pine for the table top and apron and 10' of 2x2 for the legs. You will need wood screws, glue, drill and bits, clamps (not necessary but helpful), stain, paint, sandpaper and sander, metal scraper and a heat gun.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">First, I cut the pine to 6" wide on the table saw. I need exactly 6 inch wide boards but even though you can buy 6" pine, it actually only is 5 1/4" wide. Then, I cut three pieces 30" in length for the table top. For the apron, you will need to cut two boards 16" in length and two boards 26 1/2" in length. Then, cut those four boards to 4 1/2" wide on the table saw. Cut four pieces for the legs from the 2 x 2 - 30" in length.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); text-align: center;">Next, assemble the table top by laying the three boards next to one another wrong side up and Securein place with clamps. You will need two scrap pieces of pine approximately 2 to 2 1/2" wide by 14"long. Attach to the back of the table top with wood glue and screws. </span><br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm normally not a fan of "stuff like this"but when I spotted them on instagram I knew I had to make a set for myself. The stems are simply twigs I found, cut to size and lightly sanded. </div>

They were fairly simple to crochet and only a few supplies were needed...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_1923_41d6_7bf_54b9" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IqbCgpk3Vo0/WT3x6JqsThI/AAAAAAAACx4/auyQOoVjkrMTRhClRfKO3uPt9ZlhwnA_wCHM/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Two skeins of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn. I used the colour Oatmeal. A pair of flip flops and a worsted weight yarn to match the colour of your flip flops. Three different sizes crochet hooks (B, K, L) and 6 buttons. The pattern is offered at <a href="http://makeanddocrew.com/crochet-boots-flip-flops-pattern-video/">http://makeanddocrew.com/crochet-boots-flip-flops-pattern-video/</a>, and the video tutorial is great! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_7a32_8c31_c7eb_232a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-IbKd-hdClZ8/WT3x52hvziI/AAAAAAAACx0/era6wKH868IuQCg3_FyL8Gz-0ZXXVLirQCHM/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I watched the video twice before attempting to make them, but once you understand the construction of the boot the written instructions are very easy to follow. Make and Do Crew offers a lot of great patterns together with several different styles of slippers, shoes and boots patterns to crochet using flip flops. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_9e00_8d5_f75d_306a" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BnLLjwRD1W4/WT3x6R5S-bI/AAAAAAAACx8/r0ikvBFPdlELZA6KqG_wrkF-EKM1uofPwCHM/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>

"Gather" seemed appropriate so here is what I created...<div><br></div><div><img id="id_bbd4_8def_2cce_4644" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PcyIvY2qBCw/WMWZbafd2JI/AAAAAAAACwg/tTzJx5LPx_o/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 718px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div>It measures 13 3/4" wide x 13" tall which includes the frame. </div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_56ee_2fd7_7457_b54e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-xmgex3RCITk/WMWZb1hX5II/AAAAAAAACws/pp_mSGq9t6s/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 718px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div>I used a piece of 1/4" mdf board for the sign and cut a piece of 1" pine into a 3/4" wide strip for the frame. The background of the sign was painted with Charcoal Grey by DecoArt and the lettering and leafy wreath was painted with my favourite cream coloured paint "Sandbar". DecoArt's "Buttermilk" is a similar colour. </div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_f183_4b72_d9ea_ad15" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fA0JFFLJe9s/WMWZb0i2YlI/AAAAAAAACwo/eQ6e1Gs5xZ8/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 718px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div>Once the paint was completely dry I sanded it with 220 grit sandpaper to remove some of the paint and give it more of an aged look. This also helps to remove any dried paint ridges and gives your hand painted lettering a smoother appearance.</div><div><br></div><div>The frame was stained with a weathered grey stain and then I blended a dark walnut stain on top. The frame was attached with wood glue and an air nailer. I attached a small self-levelling hanger on the back for hanging. </div><div><br></div><div>I've attached below a closeup of the lettering and if you decide you want to try making one for yourself, I'm hoping you can print the image to the size you desire and use it to trace the pattern onto your wood or use it to cut your own stencil. </div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_9db7_a18a_b487_c2a4" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_4sok-8EaRI/WMWZcPso-4I/AAAAAAAACww/rpnuin6dBEs/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 718px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div><img id="id_f496_6fc4_a0fe_93e2" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cWwaAXhBd8I/WMWZbgTr0AI/AAAAAAAACwk/JNwlmNyhxpA/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 718px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for stopping by.</div><div><br></div><div>Lesa</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04166500142511098718noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1525568096089598961.post-48830221665711544452017-03-04T17:13:00.001-08:002017-03-04T17:21:40.096-08:00Simple AfghanHere is a crocheted blanket I'd like to share with you...<div><br></div><div><img id="id_1565_7114_5324_db39" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-k6BM5pFqxj0/WLtmRb1IRGI/AAAAAAAACvM/vVZ_hJSUxYs/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" alt="" title="" tooltip="" style="width: 719px; height: auto;"> <br></div><div><br></div><div>It was very simple to do. I never took photos of "the process" nor did I write instructions for these projects. Most of the projects I'm about to show were inspired by very creative people on Pinterest so there are many well-written tutorials out there! I just want to share with you some of my home and crafting projects that have been keeping me busy so...here we go!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First up...a couple of wood signs I made...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_9ef8_e316_3f52_cce7" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sutPGSbE1y4/WKpSZxvmBeI/AAAAAAAACtk/rukgxVeNBcg/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_a144_58cf_1c30_b2ac" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CDSivoBMdeA/WKpSaoJrvJI/AAAAAAAACt0/qdz8KnGKTwM/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Something to fill in the space at my front door entryway. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_c3d3_8dfb_e0cb_687d" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7uoUoT-NJno/WKpSaJCLpfI/AAAAAAAACto/Wbsk7jzAXyg/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
An extra-large version of "Let's Stay Home" which I love! The next picture will show you how big it actually is...my sectional in the tv room is 12 feet across the back.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_4aa3_bd4_ee83_a46e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-WYCGx6oa6oA/WKpSaCVJ4aI/AAAAAAAACts/UG8JFhwEvXk/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, in this photo is another favourite project and that would be the coffee table! Built with pine laminate for the top, 1 x 3's for the frame and all put together with glue and a Kreg Jig. I painted the bottom with my favourite cream coloured paint and stained the top first with a weathered grey stain and then blended a dark walnut stain on top of that which gave it a driftwood colour. I then applied a water based satin varnish.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_7e2b_8ca3_368b_d021" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tJO54EhTgIM/WKpSaddLW7I/AAAAAAAACtw/YXhMabXPDH0/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Next...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My entryway table...again, another favourite!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_dae_a454_fcef_1323" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0QMKiRxV2lE/WKpSa3LlY7I/AAAAAAAACt8/7x4MVZ4G1fA/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I finished it identical to my coffee table in the tv room.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_6fdb_59d1_d19f_9fb" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ekUNQcWtb1c/WKpSamz56nI/AAAAAAAACt4/NddVrsxAt2o/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I refinished my round coffee table in the living room to match the entryway table and square coffee table...again, love it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_becc_1c9e_9826_7c9c" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Cf7p6NxtHC0/WKpSa1FsbVI/AAAAAAAACuA/SRHid-eWEUA/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Several posts ago, I share this table with you and the process involved when I turned it from an oak kitchen table to a coffee table. At that time, I painted the base black and stained the tabletop a dark walnut. I'm loving the new look much better!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now, a few textile projects...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_38b4_4738_126c_1cd4" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8KujlVOiEeY/WKpSbj8uMNI/AAAAAAAACuU/3tstuy_BQs4/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As you can see from the picture, I knit this quilt in December. It was knit using size 50 US knitting needles and it took a couple of nights to do. Very easy and fun to make.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_983_620f_a6f6_7bbc" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ilRppMcvU14/WKpSbDCkA_I/AAAAAAAACuE/tZzxRXJDqPQ/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I made this pillow using a rug punch tool and scrap yarn I had from previous projects. I drew the design and "punched away". I made it for my daughter as an accent pillow in her livingroom as her decorating style is more contemporary with her black leather sectional. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_ba44_fbf1_1847_d963" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rP4cH82CUHc/WKpSbcVuOiI/AAAAAAAACuQ/y5biUKt5hR4/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And my last and most recent project...a blanket for my 2 year old granddaughter, Aubree. It was a Valentines gift for her and I thought she'd enjoy snuggling in it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_b4d9_14d4_f712_7d41" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-aAWH-0-ry68/WKpSbCUY4bI/AAAAAAAACuI/pg0ADGkS3Ds/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It is a crochet patter from MJ's Off the Hook and its the hooded owl pattern that's everywhere right now! However, I am not a fan of owls and my granddaughter loves cats SO, I created my own version of the blanket using MJ's pattern but creating my own cat face for the hood. It took some figuring because this is my very first crochet project. I watched a lot of you tube videos! MJ also does a wonderful tutorial on how to crochet her shell pattern so thanks to her I was able to make the blanket!! What's really cute about it is that it folds up into a pillow!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<img alt="" id="id_388f_1be0_85a1_c78e" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_216yQ8BloE/WKpSbXoHEmI/AAAAAAAACuM/0WBy_400lrM/%25255BUNSET%25255D.png" style="height: auto; width: 718px;" title="" tooltip="" /> </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A "purrfect" cuddle blanket for Aubree. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well, that's what I've been up too when I'm not at work! Thanks for stopping by! </div>
<div>

You need three pieces 3" x 36" (for the large) and three pieces 3" x 24" (for the small). The ends of the snowflakes were cut on a mitre saw at a 37 degree angle. Each end piece was cut to a length of</span></div><div>4 1/2" and you will need 12 pieces for each snowflake. The rectangular pieces at the ends were cut from the leftover scraps at a length of approximately 4". </div><div><br></div><div>My husband helped me assemble each snowflake and he likes things precise so he did some mathematical calculations to find centre and then divided the circle circumference by six to get the degrees between each end...bla bla bla. I was going to just "eyeball" it! Anyway, it's nice and evenly spaced. My husband and I spend a lot of time at our seasonal lot during the summer so I decided to take a few paints and brushes with me and to introduce myself to painting flowers again. I still need a lot of practice but it's fun and very relaxing. Here are a few attempts at rose painting...<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yi1yZfVDg84/V7CQzknEuHI/AAAAAAAACr8/WwCckw7t7Ig/s640/blogger-image--1199606972.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-yi1yZfVDg84/V7CQzknEuHI/AAAAAAAACr8/WwCckw7t7Ig/s640/blogger-image--1199606972.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2BV65T5l8vo/V7CQ2SI8lgI/AAAAAAAACsE/IolUgzqsHuo/s640/blogger-image-1680737519.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2BV65T5l8vo/V7CQ2SI8lgI/AAAAAAAACsE/IolUgzqsHuo/s640/blogger-image-1680737519.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9FTPBtPRdYY/V7CQ324VwdI/AAAAAAAACsI/sfae6vb6cUo/s640/blogger-image-1575253160.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9FTPBtPRdYY/V7CQ324VwdI/AAAAAAAACsI/sfae6vb6cUo/s640/blogger-image-1575253160.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Mzw0pLsdgFY/V7CQ5jRXMWI/AAAAAAAACsM/hzwklBIYQMY/s640/blogger-image-1584838058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Mzw0pLsdgFY/V7CQ5jRXMWI/AAAAAAAACsM/hzwklBIYQMY/s640/blogger-image-1584838058.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And, here is the spot where I paint...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XeQY_RWEfGE/V7CQ1EaXklI/AAAAAAAACsA/prnYcdAg3i0/s640/blogger-image--1932915257.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XeQY_RWEfGE/V7CQ1EaXklI/AAAAAAAACsA/prnYcdAg3i0/s640/blogger-image--1932915257.jpg"></a></div><br></div>Hopefully, the next time I share, my skills will improve. I've knit several different afghans but always ended up giving them away as gifts, but this one is mine! Love the color and it's very cozy.<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H5lUGg63y3I/VrjYQ-NUdEI/AAAAAAAACrU/tg1KhYlR2q0/s640/blogger-image-1518197625.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H5lUGg63y3I/VrjYQ-NUdEI/AAAAAAAACrU/tg1KhYlR2q0/s640/blogger-image-1518197625.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">There was no pattern...just a simple ribbing stitch. I don't sew quilts but I have a lot of quilting books...love the pictures! However, I came across a site about barn quilts and their history AND they are made from wood! So, I thought I would do my own version of a barn quilt and incorporate the colors from my living room. My kitchen, eating area and living room are all one space and the area is quite small so all the colors have to work together. I have very neutral colors...cream, black and tan. I wanted to use those colors in my quilt together with a dark walnut stained frame as I thought it would "pop" on my cream colored planked wall. Here is my finished barn quilt...<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J2KlIxa-3c0/VreQsdQfkSI/AAAAAAAACqY/O6n9ExPgQeA/s640/blogger-image-1497639356.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J2KlIxa-3c0/VreQsdQfkSI/AAAAAAAACqY/O6n9ExPgQeA/s640/blogger-image-1497639356.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And, here it is in the entire space...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ygELvvxLanI/VreQo71K6wI/AAAAAAAACqQ/49pxLX-gZfw/s640/blogger-image--987909905.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ygELvvxLanI/VreQo71K6wI/AAAAAAAACqQ/49pxLX-gZfw/s640/blogger-image--987909905.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-424XwxHsyJ8/VreQqilzoZI/AAAAAAAACqU/l9KMMjex6aA/s640/blogger-image--322549386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-424XwxHsyJ8/VreQqilzoZI/AAAAAAAACqU/l9KMMjex6aA/s640/blogger-image--322549386.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The total measurement of the quilt is 24 5/8" x 24 5/8". Much smaller than a true barn quilt! I first found a quilt block pattern that I could convert into wood. <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> I used 1 x 8 pine which is actually 7 1/4" wide. Following the pattern, I cut nine squares 7 1/4" x 7 1/4". I then used my mitre saw to cut four of the squares into triangles. I could have painted the pattern onto one solid piece of plywood but I wanted it to look like it had been pieced together...similar to what you would do with fabric.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mEiFfJ_w0EM/VreWfiCM8VI/AAAAAAAACq8/ONehUFOAq4k/s640/blogger-image-1331882550.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mEiFfJ_w0EM/VreWfiCM8VI/AAAAAAAACq8/ONehUFOAq4k/s640/blogger-image-1331882550.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Hopefully, the above picture shows that each triangle is individual. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Once my pieces were cut, I marked each one with the color I was going to paint it and then started the painting process. After the pieces dried I cut a piece of MDF 1/4" in thickness to the finished size of the quilt which included the frame as well. I made the frame from 2x2 strapping which I glued and used screws to secure. I then stained it with Minwax dark walnut stain. I then secured it to my MDF board with more wood glue. I used wood screws to secure it from the back. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The next step was basically like putting a jigsaw puzzle together...more glue to secure the wood quilt pieces to the MDF. I let it dry overnight, attached a hanger to the back and hung it on the wall. Easy and fun to do! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EfU2eB71iLE/VreWa5JzhmI/AAAAAAAACqw/cIp3D8akv1k/s640/blogger-image-1596417723.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EfU2eB71iLE/VreWa5JzhmI/AAAAAAAACqw/cIp3D8akv1k/s640/blogger-image-1596417723.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I actually made two quilts but one was enough for this tiny space. Since there were only seven of us, I decided to make each of them a little canvas bag to deliver my cookies in instead of the usual box or tin. Here are the finished bags...<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tBQIqMHVc80/VnutLM33QTI/AAAAAAAACn4/9w26nX1lzAY/s640/blogger-image--322176745.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tBQIqMHVc80/VnutLM33QTI/AAAAAAAACn4/9w26nX1lzAY/s640/blogger-image--322176745.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">As mentioned, I used canvas to sew and line the bags. They measured approximately 8" square. I attached canvas handles to the sides to make them look more like small buckets. For the front, I cut burlap to fit and frayed the edges slightly. I made a simple tree stencil and, using left over cream colored paint, I applied the tree to each piece of burlap. I used "heat 'n bond" to attach the burlap to the front of the bags. No sewing!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zYdkiB3KBJU/VnutJs_G7mI/AAAAAAAACnw/GBDMB3NmXCA/s640/blogger-image--1883664710.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zYdkiB3KBJU/VnutJs_G7mI/AAAAAAAACnw/GBDMB3NmXCA/s640/blogger-image--1883664710.jpg"></a></div> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I cut 1/4" birch slices and drilled a 1/16 inch hole in the top of each slice. I then inserted a small eye screw. Pre-drilling prevents the wood from splitting. I then made another stencil...the number "25" and stenciled it to the wood slice using burnt umber craft paint. I used jute twine to attach the wood slice to the canvas bag.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cZ6GlQ2jRTg/VnutGwm_V1I/AAAAAAAACng/ozyDnPTvm5A/s640/blogger-image-131804787.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cZ6GlQ2jRTg/VnutGwm_V1I/AAAAAAAACng/ozyDnPTvm5A/s640/blogger-image-131804787.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This was a fun and simple project and I hope the recipients enjoyed their gift bags and the cookies! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EP-DPDUPzLI/VnutIFWegSI/AAAAAAAACno/NfflK9Hdw9o/s640/blogger-image-1414523827.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-EP-DPDUPzLI/VnutIFWegSI/AAAAAAAACno/NfflK9Hdw9o/s640/blogger-image-1414523827.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Chocolate Cherry Thumbprint cookies with white chocolate.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">(Yes, I know, I am a terrible photographer. I wanted something different and this is how it turned out...<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VKodRcQs1Mw/ViPRaKL6okI/AAAAAAAACkg/L-i1TlHGgIg/s640/blogger-image-1642164072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VKodRcQs1Mw/ViPRaKL6okI/AAAAAAAACkg/L-i1TlHGgIg/s640/blogger-image-1642164072.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I really had no plans on sharing this project so I didn't take any before pictures or step by step pictures, but if you are interested in knowing how I achieved this look, I will share my process. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I mixed my own chalk paint using paint left over from previous projects. I first applied three coats of white to both pieces. Once completely dry, I applied one coat of Khaki Tan by Decoart to just the mirror and drawers. Once dry I sanded the paint to reveal the white underneath. Using a dark Minwax stain, I applied it to the painted surface and quickly removed it with a dry cloth as I didn't want it too dark. Again, I only did this to the drawers and mirror. Some areas were darker than I liked so I sanded a bit of the color away and dry brushed white over top just to lighted the area. I continued in this manner until I was happy with the colors. I used a clear Minwax paste wax to all surfaces to give the table <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">and mirror a rich buffed sheen.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GL0YWXuCheo/ViPRVieTUII/AAAAAAAACkI/dipmXG-7AQY/s640/blogger-image-1479486035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GL0YWXuCheo/ViPRVieTUII/AAAAAAAACkI/dipmXG-7AQY/s640/blogger-image-1479486035.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m4zGbnk3NMI/ViPRYiy6leI/AAAAAAAACkY/7W9LfKUD9FM/s640/blogger-image-984908555.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-m4zGbnk3NMI/ViPRYiy6leI/AAAAAAAACkY/7W9LfKUD9FM/s640/blogger-image-984908555.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9OEKjyh8PHw/ViPRXHtSVbI/AAAAAAAACkQ/Tf3hN6OaYqY/s640/blogger-image--430349451.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9OEKjyh8PHw/ViPRXHtSVbI/AAAAAAAACkQ/Tf3hN6OaYqY/s640/blogger-image--430349451.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I was trying to achieve an old world look similar to Restoration Hardware. What do you think?<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zo8GvLjPQYo/VcBDxAngi8I/AAAAAAAACjI/8F0xgkfGTLc/s640/blogger-image--1652861761.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-zo8GvLjPQYo/VcBDxAngi8I/AAAAAAAACjI/8F0xgkfGTLc/s640/blogger-image--1652861761.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The picture below shows you what I started with...two pieces of pine that I used to make simple chalkboards for Christmas decor.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t_vIDOpikDE/VcBD5yv2LBI/AAAAAAAACjw/iPERbu2a6ac/s640/blogger-image--1820871517.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-t_vIDOpikDE/VcBD5yv2LBI/AAAAAAAACjw/iPERbu2a6ac/s640/blogger-image--1820871517.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">First thing I did was cut away the sides and edges of the wood with a skillsaw. I just randomly cut away the wood. I then used a chisel to make deep grooves and gouges in the wood. Once I roughed up the wood, I sanded the entire piece with 100 grit sandpaper rounding and smoothing out the edges. I used the back of the wood which had been previously stained with a dark walnut Minwax stain so I removed most of the stain and took it down to bare wood. I simply used a primer paint mixed with plaster of paris and water and brushed the entire piece of wood with a whitewash. Once dry, which took minutes, I used the same method but using craft paint by Decoart called Khaki Tan. Again, once dry I sanded it with 180 grit sandpaper exposing some of the bare wood and whitewashed wood. I then applied espresso Minwax stain making sure to fill the deep grooves and gouges with the dark stain. The last step was to apply a clear Minwax paste wax, buffing to a smooth, glossy finish. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wv1fXXHZddU/VcBDzbkVXdI/AAAAAAAACjQ/B63JjMLsFpY/s640/blogger-image--554982230.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wv1fXXHZddU/VcBDzbkVXdI/AAAAAAAACjQ/B63JjMLsFpY/s640/blogger-image--554982230.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V1sYWD0Hq2I/VcBD4QbCHqI/AAAAAAAACjo/7ZV3bsu6TTU/s640/blogger-image-938098739.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V1sYWD0Hq2I/VcBD4QbCHqI/AAAAAAAACjo/7ZV3bsu6TTU/s640/blogger-image-938098739.jpg"></a></div></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I liked the finished wood so much that I decided to hang a piece on each side of this mirror. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s5YxHOkeAek/VcBD02gUwaI/AAAAAAAACjY/JVWXbXw1n-Y/s640/blogger-image--1698188519.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-s5YxHOkeAek/VcBD02gUwaI/AAAAAAAACjY/JVWXbXw1n-Y/s640/blogger-image--1698188519.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ZURDjetsVXg/VcBD3J-Ba4I/AAAAAAAACjg/po4Um8V_pmA/s640/blogger-image--2076604673.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ZURDjetsVXg/VcBD3J-Ba4I/AAAAAAAACjg/po4Um8V_pmA/s640/blogger-image--2076604673.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Thank you for stopping by. The pieces went together somewhat but it was never the look I wanted. It was just a "mish mash" that I put together to create some extra storage. Honestly, I hated it but just didn't have the energy to do anything to it until this past weekend. We don't have a woodworking shop so a lot of the process took place in my living/dining/kitchen space. (It's a small house so it's all one room!)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jnol9a-eosM/VUhG6LmiGaI/AAAAAAAACgo/hRN53gS8DDw/s640/blogger-image-1622410570.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jnol9a-eosM/VUhG6LmiGaI/AAAAAAAACgo/hRN53gS8DDw/s640/blogger-image-1622410570.jpg"></a></div> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">First I built a new base for the buffet. I wanted the buffet to have more height and I wanted it to look substantial, yet I needed to take into consideration of our small space. I just used 1 x 6 pine to create the base. The wood blocks were glued and screwed to the bottom of the buffet so I had something to attach the pine boards to making it sturdy.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g3oeDmeZCaM/VUhG3ZPu_0I/AAAAAAAACgY/O26xldKdeqM/s640/blogger-image--904264548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g3oeDmeZCaM/VUhG3ZPu_0I/AAAAAAAACgY/O26xldKdeqM/s640/blogger-image--904264548.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qAfokyuAC-w/VUhG4yl5iVI/AAAAAAAACgg/Hk_tGYuT1VA/s640/blogger-image--1053304603.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qAfokyuAC-w/VUhG4yl5iVI/AAAAAAAACgg/Hk_tGYuT1VA/s640/blogger-image--1053304603.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f8xITH9-duM/VUhHBeotlPI/AAAAAAAAChQ/7mzQcKoZS00/s640/blogger-image-1653662836.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-f8xITH9-duM/VUhHBeotlPI/AAAAAAAAChQ/7mzQcKoZS00/s640/blogger-image-1653662836.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I then added a one inch moulding to all of the drawers to give more interest to the buffet. Now for the hutch or should I say, bookshelf. I had replaced the backing on the bookshelf with pine tongue and groove which I had stained dark. I simple attached 1 x 3 pine to the bottom of the shelf to, again, have it visually look heavier. Plus, it tied in with the base of the buffet making it look like both pieces belong together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-k3s5hJPf85w/VUhG1rO-q5I/AAAAAAAACgQ/O0ZlJAcDyVk/s640/blogger-image--1088758308.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-k3s5hJPf85w/VUhG1rO-q5I/AAAAAAAACgQ/O0ZlJAcDyVk/s640/blogger-image--1088758308.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I filled and sanded all the holes and then it was time to paint. I chose a paint color from Behr called "garden wall". And, out of that paint I created my own chalk paint following the directions I have found on pinterest and many blogs. I happened to stumble upon it while searching the internet and pinterest for rug hooking ideas. Needle punch has been around for years, but in my world only a couple of months. <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-20U3MlfxOJU/VQY6i7fhcDI/AAAAAAAACfc/8zr23z2aTzM/s640/blogger-image-1288202628.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-20U3MlfxOJU/VQY6i7fhcDI/AAAAAAAACfc/8zr23z2aTzM/s640/blogger-image-1288202628.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The finished projects look like hooked rugs but are created using embroidery thread and are much smaller than a hooked rug. I am not an expert on this craft so this post is not about needle punch techniques...it's simply to share my first project and to tell you how much fun it is to do! </span></div><div><br></div><div>Here is my first project...</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-NCzoZhQ4jq0/VQY6hXOJCFI/AAAAAAAACfU/gB4fw7a9cx4/s640/blogger-image--1988863440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-NCzoZhQ4jq0/VQY6hXOJCFI/AAAAAAAACfU/gB4fw7a9cx4/s640/blogger-image--1988863440.jpg"></a></div></div><div><br></div><div>I mounted the finished project on a piece of pine board that I stained, then painted a cream color, sanded then stained again. I found some metal ribbon at Michaels which I cut to fit the top and bottom of the pine. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RS3hAp51MR0/VQY6kNygfdI/AAAAAAAACfk/T6Uh_vWhueo/s640/blogger-image-2026442382.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-RS3hAp51MR0/VQY6kNygfdI/AAAAAAAACfk/T6Uh_vWhueo/s640/blogger-image-2026442382.jpg"></a></div><br></div></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The metal ribbon comes in a shiny finish so I sprayed it with rubbed oil bronze paint and then wiped off most of the paint, leaving some of the paint in the indents. It helped to dull the finish and give it an antiqued look. </span></div><div><br></div><div>I have my project displayed in my family room on a narrow wall between two windows. My family room has greenish-grey walls, so it compliments the colors I used in the stars. Here is a picture, however the bright sun shining through doesn't give the true effect...</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nTXM8AWQ4ls/VQY6f8rfchI/AAAAAAAACfM/ufrKAObQyV0/s640/blogger-image--110067857.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nTXM8AWQ4ls/VQY6f8rfchI/AAAAAAAACfM/ufrKAObQyV0/s640/blogger-image--110067857.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Thank you for stopping by. The flanges that were secured to the wall went right through the gyproc which the flipped the shelf forward. All the pottery I had stored on that shelf fell to the floor and smashed into pieces! I could have cried but I kept it together telling myself it is only pottery. The only upsetting thing is that the lady who made all my dishes and serving pieces made them just for me so no two are the same. She lives a province away so I don't know if I will ever be able to replace them. Oh well, this post is not about the pottery...it's about the new shelving I have added!</span><br />
<div>
<div>
I found an inexpensive bookshelf at Walmart that somewhat matched the color of my kitchen cabinets. It also fits on top of my existing buffet. (I don't think my wall will ever hold another shelf!) I've been using it "as is" for that past month but wasn't quite happy with it. Here it is before the makeover...</div>

I <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">decided to replace the back with beadboard that I cut to size, stained with Minwax "Kona" and attached to the back by pre-drilling and nailing to the edges of the bookcase. I then decided to sand the sides and edges of the bookshelf with 100-grit sandpaper removing some of the original dark finish. Here it is after I sanded it...</span></div>

The distance between the island and wall is fairly narrow so I needed a cabinet, at the most, 16" wide. </span></div><div><br></div><div>I found a small buffet at Jysk that was only $110.00.
